Cincinnati Weightlifting Club is a USAW recognized club, training the Snatch and Clean-and-Jerk. These are the lifts of the Olympic games and are commonly known as "the Olympic lifts". The videos to the right are examples of how to perform the lifts correctly.
If you have ever thought about ways to get faster, stronger, quicker, etc, weightlifting may be for you. Are you a parent and thinking about putting your kid in to an organized team sport? If so, your child can become a weightlifter!
Less stress to growing bodies (no lateral movements), increased bone density, better muscular development: you can't beat weightlifting. Weightlifting has a near zero (really) injury rate. Soccer, hockey, baseball, basketball all have high injury rates. Young knees and hips take a beating in these sports.
This is NOT power lifting (bench press, squat, dead lift) or body building (a "sport" where judgment is based upon muscle size and symmetry) or toning. There are plenty of clubs around that cater that sort of cake-boy lifting.
Weightlifting is the only barbell sport of the Olympics and its training methods are applicable to all sorts of other sports. To name a few: volleyball, basketball, football, soccer, track and field, baseball, hockey, lacrosse. No bench pressing allowed! No curls in the squat rack! |
